How Arena Tournaments Work
In the arena format, you play as many games as possible during the open tournament window. After each game ends you are automatically paired with a new opponent. Wins earn points; win streaks earn double points. The player with the most points at the close of the tournament wins. You can join and leave at any time.
Tournament Time Controls
- Bullet (1+0, 2+1): Fast-paced games for players who think quickly under pressure.
- Blitz (3+2, 5+3): The most popular tournament format in online checkers.
- Rapid (10+5): Slower, more strategic games for careful thinkers.
Competitive Opening Formats
CheckersClub tournaments support the opening formats used in official American checkers championships:
- GAYP (Go As You Please): Players freely choose any opening move. Best for casual and introductory events.
- 3-Move Ballot: The first three moves are randomly drawn from 156 officially published ballots. Standard format of the American Checkers Federation championship.
- 2-Move Ballot: First two moves are prescribed. Common in club-level competition.
- 11-Man Ballot: Each player starts with 11 pieces instead of 12, creating unique tactical positions from move one.
